- USASIA Perth Centre CEO Gordon Flake says Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong’s plans to meet with Chinese counterpart are not signs of “thaw” in Australia’s relationship with China but rather “lowering the temperature".
“Australia has to be able to lay out very clearly areas where it disagrees with China," Mr Flake told Sky News Australia.
"Meetings themselves are not a concession, meetings themselves are not an indication of a decrease in Australia’s concerns about Chinese behaviour but they are certainly positive development.”
